A late sell-off took the barometer index BSE Sensex below the psychological 17,000 mark. The market breadth was weak. The Sensex lost 271.27 points or 1.57%, off close to 335 points from the day’s high and up close to 70 points from the day’s low.
The Sensex had risen 124.34 points or 0.72% in the preceding two trading sessions to settle at 17,265,87 on Thursday, 13 May 2010, from a low of 17,141.53 on Tuesday, 11 May 2010. The barometer index rose 225.49 points or 1.34% in the week ended Friday, 14 May 2010.While the headline inflation declined to 9.59% in April 2010 from 9.9% rise in March 2010, the data for February 2010 was revised upwards to 10.06% from provisional figure of 9.89%, the latest government data showed.
